Puducherry: Considering the importance of water management and conservation, a number of experts came together to look at an integrated planning approach at a regional Scale last month.
A consultation meet on “Water management through Integrated Planning and Regional Collaboration” was organized by the Town and Country Planning department of the Government of Puducherry along with Pondy CAN, INTACH and L’ avenir d’.

According to a release, there was depletion of groundwater owing to over extraction, salt water instruction into aquifers, poor ground water recharge from the rains, and contamination from open defecation, garbage and industrial waste.

The National Water Policy (2002) envisages the water resources of the country should be developed and managed in an integrated manner, the release added.

He said the first task would be to demarcate the region based on natural resource such as water and topography.

Mr. Anand went on to chalk out a strategy on how to set up task forces with the Chief Town Planner and officials of the government of puducherry and Tamil Nadu, resources persons, INTACH AND Pondy CAN.
